Great Blog. However, it is important to note that all the companies and methods mentioned here in this blog do not account for Asset Protection Strategies. If debtors are not carefully in how the navigate the minefield of debt settlement they will end up in bankruptcy due to judgments and wage garnishments. Check out the FreedomFromCreditors.com option to protect your self from creditor intrusions.

Credit card debt is a real problem for some people. With the new Credit Card Act, and having more people aware of their spending and making lifestyle changes can really help.

How Debt Settlement Works

Debt settlement is a negotiation process allowing consumers with unsecured debt (such as credit card debt settlement or hospital bills) to lower the total amount they owe if the balance is paid outright. Many consumers lacking the cash upfront will work with a debt settlement company to help them settle credit card debt, lower their interest rates/balance and turn multiple payments into one lower monthly payment.

Consumers use debt settlements as an option to stop high interest fees and lower their balance. Debt settlement is an option that is being used by more Americans and could be the right choice for you.

I too have been a victim of this scam. As far as getting a refund I cant even get them to answer an email or their phone. These scammers continued to withdraw money from my account at up until March, 2010 when I finally figured out they were stealing my money and not doing what it was they said they would do. I orginally got their number from an advertisment on Cable News. They called themselves Champion Debt Relief. Hopefully somewhere down the road some of us us will get our money back.

I guess my situation is nothing new. I got caught up in the economic meltdown. I was in Dubai for 9 years and had good job. As my job went out of business I got fired. I had several credit cards and a large personal loan. I did not intend on stealing anything from anyone. This is bothering me very bad everyday. I had to leave the country or go and sit in the jail until the debt was paid. Living my country there is no one that would help me with the amount that I owed. Now I am worried that they will come here to my country and take me back to the jail. I still have not found work yet.

Debt settlement program Debt Negotiation Program Bankruptcy, credit crad debt or any kind of debt will be settled with the apropiate Debt Management Program. Negotiating over the price of a purchase could be called Debt Negotiation, and a few people realize there is a debt solution that puts you in the ball game and levels the playing field between you and your creditors

Hi, I actually work for The Consumer Law Group and I must say it is more than a little unsettling to see this story. My company actually does the job they say they're going to, there are attorney fees, but the balance of our clients' accounts does build up throughout the entire program. The first 2 payments paid on the program go directly to fees and then the rest of the fee ($2500, $3500, or $4500 altogether) is collected throughout the rest of the client's up to 4 year program. There has to be some form of miscommunication here if this client was told that he won't start accruing money in his settlement account until his fees are paid off, in fact, he should be receiving monthly statements reflecting the balance of his account, and if a client does wish to cancel they will be issued a refund. How much I may disagree with the practice of collecting the first 2 payments for fees it is much better than the practices of most attorneys out there whom collect their entire attorney fees up front. I also know for a fact that we will do everything in our power to accomodate a client, especially ones in a settlement program. I urge this individual to please call our office and discuss this matter with any of the representatives just make sure you explain the story, if needed, ask for the supervisor. Settlement does work, but if it turns out that your best move is truly bankruptcy we understand, we are simply here to help those that want to avoid that option and be as fair to the creditors as possible by paying back a portion of your debt, rather than the whole balance plus interest.

Getting a loan to pay off the school might be a good alternative. Consider borrowing from friends or family members first rather than financial companies who probably will charge interest.
