Hi,

I just have a question with debts incurred in Dubai. My father was working in Dubai, however, he was paralyzed, and was sent back to his home country. He owed RAKbank and the collection agencies are chasing him asking him to pay or they will get all his properties in the Philippines. My father is jobless, disabled and thus unable to work. He can't pay his debt.

Can the collection agency really take his properties in the Philippines for a debt incurred in UAE?

Hi I would like to share my situation and I hope anyone can give me a light on the matter.

I have a work mate and a friend who was supposed to renew his contract last June 2009 when he learned he had a police case. So we inquired and the case was from one of his credit cards from a prime bank. So we paid 2,400 only for penalty and he was required to present a guarantor with a cheque. As a friend and so that he can resume his work I acted as his guarantor so his police case was lifted. I was asked to sign a huge amount on the cheque for his 2 cards instead of the one he had a problem with.

He was cleared and continued working until April of 2010 when he went on vacation. He was having so much trouble personally and decided not to come back here anymore. He told me he'll not forget the agreement but until now he doesn't have the guts to message me.

I paid for his other card which is not of high amount since May. And because I know I am accountable due to the cheque I will really pay the installment monthly. But the agents are torturing me when I am speak with them. So I decided not to answer calls (which I think wasn't right) and I will go the bank next month because my personal financial status is already clearing.

I just want to negotiate with the bank that I will not run like a criminal and if they'll just give me at lest two or 3 more months to clear my personal debts then it will be better because I'll have an extra for my delinquent friends cards. But I am not sure if the bank will be amenable to this.

I would also like to to meet a compromise for a longer term with lower interests. because I will surely be staying in the UAE for a long time. I will renew my visa by January and I don't want any problems from the bank. But I have seen and heard about diff. cases where the banks were hard to talk with.

I just need someone who can give me advise, at least before I go to the bank next month. Advise as to what to say or do and not to run away LOL. Or advise as to people I may contact about this. I dont know any legal issues here so I suppose there is no need for me to contact a lawyer. And its is expensive.

I also want to know if I can file a case against him in the Philippines. Adn what would be the mechanics.

I have a life and a family who I support. I just did a good deed to a friend and now I am paying for choosing poorly. Please email me at my email address andrewingal@yahoo.com for insights and advise which I will really appreciate highly. Thanks!

Great Blog. However, it is important to note that all the companies and methods mentioned here in this blog do not account for Asset Protection Strategies. If debtors are not carefully in how the navigate the minefield of debt settlement they will end up in bankruptcy due to judgments and wage garnishments. Check out the FreedomFromCreditors.com option to protect your self from creditor intrusions.

Credit card debt is a real problem for some people. With the new Credit Card Act, and having more people aware of their spending and making lifestyle changes can really help.

How Debt Settlement Works

Debt settlement is a negotiation process allowing consumers with unsecured debt (such as credit card debt settlement or hospital bills) to lower the total amount they owe if the balance is paid outright. Many consumers lacking the cash upfront will work with a debt settlement company to help them settle credit card debt, lower their interest rates/balance and turn multiple payments into one lower monthly payment.

Consumers use debt settlements as an option to stop high interest fees and lower their balance. Debt settlement is an option that is being used by more Americans and could be the right choice for you.

I too have been a victim of this scam. As far as getting a refund I cant even get them to answer an email or their phone. These scammers continued to withdraw money from my account at up until March, 2010 when I finally figured out they were stealing my money and not doing what it was they said they would do. I orginally got their number from an advertisment on Cable News. They called themselves Champion Debt Relief. Hopefully somewhere down the road some of us us will get our money back.

I guess my situation is nothing new. I got caught up in the economic meltdown. I was in Dubai for 9 years and had good job. As my job went out of business I got fired. I had several credit cards and a large personal loan. I did not intend on stealing anything from anyone. This is bothering me very bad everyday. I had to leave the country or go and sit in the jail until the debt was paid. Living my country there is no one that would help me with the amount that I owed. Now I am worried that they will come here to my country and take me back to the jail. I still have not found work yet.
